Sublimation printer settings: match the software and paper

Check printer settings by exact model, application, operating system, paper, and transfer. Compare documented Epson and Sawgrass controls with their source limits.

There is no single set of printer settings for every sublimation job. Driver controls, print application, color management, paper, media path, and the blank's transfer instructions answer different questions. Start with the full printer model and the exact paper or blank you plan to use, then apply only the settings that the relevant manufacturer documents for that workflow.

Separate print settings from press settings

Printer settings control how the file is prepared and sent to paper: size, orientation, media type, profile, image mirroring, and print quality. Press settings describe the transfer on a specific blank and equipment path. Do not copy a temperature or time from a different blank into the printer driver, and do not assume a paper size is the printer's full imageable area.

The clearest product-specific controls in the current source set come from the Epson F570 User's Guide and Sawgrass Print Utility help. These examples show which options exist; they are not a universal preset or a recommendation to use one mode for every image.

Check the exact printer controls

Printer or softwareWhat the source documentsWhat to verify for your job
Epson SureColor F570Its manual describes Windows Layout options for Rotate 180° and Mirror Image. On Mac it lists Reverse page orientation and Flip horizontally. These are separate layout options, and the manual does not say mirroring is enabled by default.Check the actual application and operating system you use. Preview the file and verify orientation before using transfer paper.
Epson SureColor F570 colorThe manual lists sRGB, Business Graphics, Line Drawing, GIS, ICM, and Off color-management modes. Epson says application-level color management is usually preferable; when Off is selected, an ICC profile is required.Use the exact manual and app workflow for your system. Do not combine an app profile with a driver correction unless the workflow documents that combination.
Sawgrass Print UtilitySawgrass says Mirror is usually enabled by default. Profiles, quality options, and page sizes vary with the selected printer model, print quality, and paper. It describes Photographic for photos and Vibrant for graphics or vector art; Vibrant increases saturation slightly. It recommends Type B if bleeding or wet ink occurs.Confirm the selected printer, paper, tray, mode, and mirror state in the current utility. Treat Type B as Sawgrass's utility guidance for the stated symptom, not a general paper fix.
Epson SureColor F170Epson says the F170 arrives with Mac and Windows print software and names T49M bottles as the system; its detailed operating-system list is older.Check Epson's current download page for support for your operating system. The reviewed F170 product page does not describe equivalent controls for mirroring or color modes.
Brother SP1Brother exposes SP1-specific drivers, manuals, support videos, warranty, FAQs, and compatible supplies. The support page's indexed content does not state a mirror default or color-management recipe.Open Brother's current SP1 manual or driver instructions for your operating system; do not infer a setting from the support page navigation or the Artspira project list.

For Sawgrass, first confirm which ink workflow is installed. Sawgrass distinguishes conventional SubliJet UHD use from VersiFlex and warns not to mix the systems. A paper profile or media option for one workflow should not be carried over to the other.

Blank-specific transfer directions can change the mirroring choice. For its exact UN4937-PKG Unisub Benelux landscape cast-acrylic ornament, JPPlus says to print on the reverse side without mirroring. This is that item's direction, not a universal printer setting.

Confirm paper and print area

The supported sheet or roll size is a media-handling limit, not necessarily the area the printer can image. Epson's F570 manual lists Letter sheets in the auto sheet feeder and specifies 0.12-inch margins on all sides. Subtracting those margins gives a calculated nominal interior of 8.26 × 10.76 inches for that exact cut-sheet path. The manual notes that application, driver, operating-system, and layout choices can reduce actual bounds.

The F170 page lists maximum 8.5-inch paper width and sheet media up to 8.5 × 47.2 inches, while also saying printable length depends on the application, operating system, and driver or RIP. Epson specifies 3 mm side margins; the derived width is about 8.264 inches. That calculation does not establish a two-dimensional F170 print rectangle because the reviewed page does not supply the corresponding top and bottom margins for a named path.

Sawgrass lists the SG500 up to 8.5 × 14 inches, or 8.5 × 51 inches with its bypass tray, and the SG1000 up to 11 × 17 inches, or 13 × 19 inches with its bypass tray. Those values describe listed media formats. Sawgrass's own help says utility profiles and page sizes vary by model, quality, and paper; check the selected profile and media in the utility instead of treating the maximum sheet size as printable area.

Use the printable-area guide to compare media, printer bounds, supplier templates, and blank dimensions. The design-size helper can convert dimensions you enter, but it does not inspect a printer driver or discover a blank's coating area.

Use a short pre-print check

  1. Confirm the full model and region, then open its current driver or print application.
  2. Choose the exact paper, feed path, tray, and profile that match the supply in your hands.
  3. Enter the physical design dimensions. Check both orientations against the imageable bounds documented for that path.
  4. Follow the exact transfer instructions to decide whether to mirror. Check the preview after changing application, driver, or paper presets.
  5. For color, use the documented software path for the selected printer, paper, and ink. Do not add an unverified ICC profile or stack multiple color corrections.
  6. Before using transfer paper, verify that the paper size, orientation, and visible image scale match the design. If a setting is missing or the source is unclear, use the exact maker's manual or support channel rather than guessing.

Sawgrass's utility guide says its “Mirror” option is usually on by default, while Epson's F570 manual lists explicit layout controls without stating a default. Those are different software behaviors. Keep the statement tied to the named software and inspect the actual print preview.

Keep press directions with the blank

The printer can prepare an image correctly while a transfer still needs a different blank-specific procedure. The 18-ounce Hydro project ties Epson F570 Letter auto-sheet layout to one MakerFlo template canvas, then separately identifies the exact bottle and tumbler press directions. Its supplier setting is 355°F for 60 seconds, rotate 180 degrees, and press another 60 seconds. That instruction belongs to the exact bottle page section for the named MakerFlo press; it is not a general printer setting or a recipe for other drinkware.

For other materials, find a settings record that names the exact blank and relevant press context. The settings finder is intended to filter by exact material and context. If its record does not match the selected item, do not treat a nearby result as interchangeable.

Check operating-system support

The F570 manual names Windows 10, 8.x, and 7, and older macOS releases in its listed system requirements; it directs users to Epson downloads for current software. The F170 product page lists Windows 7 through 10 and Mac versions through macOS 10.15.x. A static page's older list is not proof that a current computer is unsupported or supported. Check the current model-specific download page and driver notes before choosing a system.

Brother's SP1 support portal groups driver and manual downloads, warranty details, videos, FAQs, and compatible supplies by model. Use the exact SP1 page to find the current file for your operating system. Do not infer a mirroring or color default from an Artspira project example.

What the reviewed sources leave open

The current source set does not give one shared color profile, media preset, or orientation behavior across Epson, Sawgrass, and Brother. It also does not establish comparable two-axis printable bounds for every model and sheet path. If an exact software version, paper, driver, or blank is missing from the documentation, record it as unknown and ask the manufacturer or supplier before treating the output as a production recipe.
