Choose a heat press for sublimation by project shape

Compare documented flat and tumbler heat-press options by project shape, listed dimensions, process support, and source-backed settings limits.

The right press depends on the blank's shape and usable area, the exact press format, and the instructions for your equipment and material. This guide compares manufacturer-documented flat and tumbler press options that name sublimation as a supported use. It does not rank untested transfer quality, production speed, reliability, or overall value.

  • For flat artwork and a listed 15 × 15 inch plate, compare the HTVRONT Auto Heat Press 2-Digit. The listed plate size is not a verified usable artwork area.
  • For a smaller flat layout, compare Cricut EasyPress SE sizes: the 9 × 9 inch model and the 12 × 10 inch model. Cricut lists sublimation products as a supported use and directs buyers to its Heat Guide for project settings.
  • For straight drinkware that fits the stated diameter and length range, review the MakerFlo Automatic Tumbler Press and check the exact blank dimensions before purchase.

Compare flat-press formats

The table compares the listed plate dimensions and instructions, not finished printable area. A design that matches a press plate's nominal size may still exceed the usable area of the blank, transfer, or printer.

What to verify before buyingThe product page's plate and included mat sizes do not verify the blank's usable area or a universal pressure setting. The product page does not set time and temperature for every sublimation blank. Use the exact project in Cricut's Heat Guide. The larger listed plate size does not prove that every larger garment or design fits. Measure the blank and check Cricut's Heat Guide.

For flat projects, compare the art area with the blank's usable panel first. Then check that the transfer paper, press, and specific blank share manufacturer-supported instructions. The HTVRONT kit lists a mat and PTFE sheet, but the product page's 15 × 15 inch plate does not establish the final print area. Cricut's listed 400 °F maximum is a device limit, not a recommended setting for a particular blank.

Match a tumbler press to the blank

MakerFlo lists its Automatic Tumbler Press for drinkware measuring 2.8–3.4 inches in diameter and up to 9.5 inches long. It excludes tapered shapes, 32-ounce Hydro bottles, and 40-ounce tumblers in its compatibility notes. Measure the exact blank rather than choosing by capacity. MakerFlo's 18-ounce Sublimation Hydro Water Bottle is straight and listed at 2.96 inches in diameter by 9.19 inches high, which is within the press page's stated geometry; its source-specific settings and handling caveats appear in the 18-ounce tumbler project.

The press page lists automatic pressure and a 104–392 °F control range. It does not establish that every coated drinkware item will fit or produce a successful transfer. The direct listing showed US$149.95 and both an inventory count and a Sold Out notice when checked on 2026-09-22, so availability is unknown. Treat the amount as a dated listing observation, not a current checkout price or complete project cost.

Check the process instructions

A press's temperature range, pressure control, or plate size is not a project recipe. Follow the current manufacturer instructions for the exact blank and machine, including safe operation, transfer placement, pressure or clamp setup, and cooling or peel steps. Cricut points EasyPress SE buyers to its Heat Guide; MakerFlo publishes separate press instructions for particular blanks and a separate general tumbler resource. The 18-ounce bottle page gives 355 °F for 60 seconds, rotate 180 degrees, then another 60 seconds under the section naming the MakerFlo Automatic Tumbler Press. Its separate general resource gives 365 °F for 40-second cycles without naming a press model. The project page keeps those source contexts distinct and does not combine the values.

HTVRONT Europe's model-specific A300 section lists sublimation paper on polyester or polycotton hats at 200°C/392°F for 40 seconds with a hot peel, and says to place the hat smoothly over the curved heating area for even contact. That regional chart names the A300 but no exact hat blank SKU and does not establish a US-variant-specific setting; check your exact press and blank instructions and test before production. The HPN swing-away listing describes the press design and rigid-flat-item use, but its exact product page does not establish sublimation compatibility. For other specialty shapes, verify the exact model and blank instructions before buying.

Compare the complete setup

Budget for the press, compatible blanks, transfer paper, ink, protective materials, and any accessory the exact manufacturer instructions require; the dated press listing is not a complete setup cost. The reviewed records do not include comparable current offer prices for the two Cricut models or the HTVRONT flat press, so this guide does not rank purchases by price. Confirm current merchant terms and inventory directly, then use the setup finder to compare equipment and the design-size helper to lay out dimensions you enter. The helper does not infer printer margins or a blank's usable area. A documented printer example appears in the 18-ounce tumbler project: Epson's F570 User's Guide lists Letter sheets with 0.12-inch margins on each side, giving a calculated nominal interior of 8.26 × 10.76 inches. Driver, application, operating-system, and layout settings can reduce that area. This example applies to the F570 Letter auto-sheet path; it does not establish printable bounds for other printers or usable area on a blank. For a printer shortlist, read the sublimation printer guide.

What this comparison does not establish

These manufacturer and supplier pages do not provide independent heat distribution, temperature accuracy, durability, transfer-quality, or throughput test results. They also do not establish a universal plate-to-artwork match, a universal setting, compatibility with every blank in a listed category, or a like-for-like current price. Check the exact product and blank instructions before choosing a press for a specific project.
